Gesamtlänge:150 km
From Bolzano head North-East to the narrow gully that opens up to the Eggen Valley and Ponte Nova. Turn left towards Nova Levante/Welschnofen (1187 m), along the road that leads to Costalunga Pass (1745 m).
Right before reaching the pass, on the right side of the road is “Karersee/Lago di Carezza” one of the most famous lakes of the Dolomites. From the lake with its green and light-blue water one can enjoy the magnificent view of the Catinaccio (East) and Latemar (South) mountains. The road from the lake to the Pass is short and safe.
The downhill road along the eastern slope begins with no particular inclination, whilst it gets more and more winding and steep in proximity of Vigo di Fassa, in the Fassa Valley.
Turn right and visit the lovely village of Moena where to buy special products of the local cuisine like “Puzzone di Moena” cheese.
Back to Vigo di Fassa and the near village of Pozza di Fassa closer to the heart of the local culture of the people called “Ladini”.
Drive northwards towards Canazei (1465 m) through an easy road that crosses the little villages of the valley bottom.
From here, direction Pordoi Pass (2239 m). Along this path one can enjoy the breathtaking view over the beautiful Dolomites of Sassolungo (North-West), Sella (North) and Marmolada and its glacier (South).
The road is full of slogans written on the tarmac, praising the bikers of the Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy) the prestigious long distance bicycle race, of which Pordoi Pass is a common and most of the times crucial stage.
Once at the top of the Pass one can decide to take the lift to the peak of “Sass Pordoi” (3000 m).
Drive downwards on the way to Arabba to be reached after 33 hairpin bends and up again to Falzarego Pass. The landscape is made up of mountains like Col di Lana (2452 m) that was theatre of World War I. The road is in good condition and the maximum inclination is 8%. After 20 more bends the Pass is reached.
Drive further to Livinallongo del Col di Lana and then the last stop is Cortina d’Ampezzo.
